La Palma or as it is frequently called ‘La Isla Bonita’ is a green Island of great natural beauty. The flora is of varying types from continental coastal to that found in northern Europe changingas you climb up from the coast to the northern central part of the island to the top of the Caldera. The island is to the north of most of the Canary Islands with an area of 706kms2 of several local authorities. There are a few towns and many villages.
In the geographical centre of the Island is El Paso, and covers a large rural area around the town, the National Park of La Caldera de Taburiente has its centre on the outskirts of the town. Within a few miles of El Paso is the pleasant town is Los Llanos with its many shops and restaurants, which is situated to the West of the National Park which covers the Caldera and its environs. There is also good road access from here to the park and the Caldera and also to the main town of Santa Cruz.
